Needed: Office Equipment and Supplies

You need to decide what kind of equipment and supplies you will need to keep you productive at home.  For example, the most obvious item would be a computer.  Even then you need to consider if you are more comfortable using a laptop or desktop.  Next you need to think about if you're going to need a printer to print postage or shipping labels for your products.  Scanners, digital cameras, and maybe even some photo-editing software should be considered, especially if your product is sold online such as an Ebook or Ebay.  I suggest looking into an all-in-one model of print, copy, scan and fax machine.  You can usually find a decent one for under $100 if you shop around.  The cheaper ones will probably not come with photo-editing software so be aware that you could have an additional expense there.  Compare the bundled products too, to see if you are actually saving money based on the products in the bundle that you actually need or use.  One place to check out is A Matter of Fax, click on the link below to see what they offer.

You're also going to need a comfortable place to work.  I understand the comfort of sitting in bed while surfing the web, but for longer periods of time you will need something more suitable.  An extra bedroom, empty corner in the garage or dining room are all good places.  I've read that a bedroom should be only for sleep and sex so I won't recommend that but personally, that's where I get my most creative juices flowing!  A table will work for a desk, but the more comfortable and organized you are, the easier it will be to work efficiently.

Make sure if you have pets or small children that they cannot be heard in the background while you are on the phone with customers or clients.  Make yourself look and sound as professional as possible.  You will get more leads for your business this way.  Consider any other supplies you'll need such as printers, ink, paper or mailing labels.
